Late already and the day just started

L missed the bus this morning and was late to school.
Why you ask?

Maybe it was the band-aid...
Or was it the ants...
Or is it the fact that some mornings just aren't going to go right no matter what you do.

The band-aid...

M fell and scraped her knee yesterday. It looked pretty painful and needed our handy, dandy first aid kit. Once the gauze and band-aids were on she was running again in seconds. This morning, I wanted to take the band-aids off to let it air out and the gauze was stuck to her! I didn't even think about it when I was fixing her yesterday. So we had to peel it off this morning and it started bleeding again, of course. It only took me a few seconds to write this. It sounds so simple. It took many minutes of holding down a screaming 2 year old to accomplish the task. (I did try to loosen it with water, but it was STUCK.) Then we had to convince her to put another band-aid on. Again, it sounds so easy. She finally gave in when we drew a happy face and balloons on it. Well, sort of. I also had to sit on her, but the band-aid got on. I used Neosporin this time so there will be no sticking. Good job, Mom. Why didn't I wait until I had the kids at school? I don't know. I guess that would make too much sense. So, we were late getting breakfast.

The ants...

I run L down the stairs to get her shoes on and I get her backpack. She can still make it to the bus on time if she hurries. All of a sudden she starts stomping around and yelling at the floor. I finally get her attention and she says there are ants on the floor. It gets better. She becomes convinced they are coming out of her shoes and she throws them across the room and scooches back upstairs. So now I have to find out where the ants are coming from before she'll put her shoes back on. It turns out that someone (hmm...W perhaps?) left a Capri Sun upside down near the door. Only 5 drops or so got onto the floor, but it was enough to smell tasty to some ants. They were coming under the door and across the floor to the yummy smelling drops of goodness. I wiped them up and explained to her that we were destroying the trail so they would stop coming and she finally believed me and put her shoes back on. Needless to say, the bus was long gone by then. Now I had to finish getting W ready for school, somehow get a shirt on M, get dressed, brush my hair and my teeth, make W's lunch, and get out the door in less than 5 minutes to get her to school on time. We almost made it. We were only 1 minute late which I consider pretty dang good.
