Murder? or Did I just cut his ear off?

The day before H's graduation, I was cutting W's hair so he could look ridiculously cute and handsome. He was a little jumpy when I was cleaning up around his ears with the scissors. I was cutting and he jumped and I cut the top of his ear! I felt AWFUL! And it would not stop bleeding. H wanted to take him in for stitches, but I sheared off the top so I couldn't see how you could pull the skin together to close it up. W was so brave and strong. I was so proud of him. He was joking and laughing about it with me while he was still bleeding everywhere. And he is still very defensive if anyone teases me about disfiguring him. He is quick to assure them it was an accident and he still loves me. We finally got it to stop bleeding - thank goodness I bought that pack of gauze the other day - and sent him to bed. He slept on it. If it were me, I would sleep on the other side, but he slept ON the ear and got blood all over his pillow. It looked like a murder scene off of TV.

He felt really bad about making a mess and kept apologizing - way to make a Mom feel worse. I assured him that it was not his fault. It took me over 10 minutes to pick the clots of dried blood out of his hair and off of his neck to make him presentable for graduation. He kept picking at it and reopening it for the next few days, but now it is healing nicely. These pictures are from a few days after the incident and you can see his ear is not that bad.

He even was willing to take pictures with the "murder pillow" as it is now stylized. Considering the amount of blood, you'd think I had cut his ear all the way off.
